    Perinatal anxiety and depression

    After participating in this session participants will be able to:

    • Recognise the prevalence and presenting signs and symptoms of perinatal depression and anxiety
    • Identify which patients are most at risk of perinatal depression and anxiety and advise preventive strategies
    • Manage patients with perinatal depression and anxiety including appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, and appropriate resources

    After attending this seminar participants will be able to:

    • Discuss the importance of effective contraception to ensure conscious family planning
    • Discuss appropriate contraceptive options with their patients in the post-partum period

    • Discuss issues related to managing an unwanted pregnancy

    Common problems in pregnancy

    After participating in this session participants will be able to:

    • Manage frequently-occurring medical problems in pregnancy including morning sickness, fatigue, varicose veins, constipation, dyspepsia and backache
    • Have a systematic approach to managing bleeding in pregnancy
    • Recognise signs and symptoms of complications in pregnancy that need urgent intervention

    Case study panel discussion – pregnancy and the newborn

    After attending this seminar participants will be able to:

    Provide pregnancy planning advice.

    • Advise newly pregnant women on current prenatal screening options
    • Provide appropriate dietary advice to pregnant women in relation to iron intake, reducing the risk of infant allergy, reducing dyspepsia, calcium intake
    • Recognise some early signs of significant pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, PUPP
    • Advise on appropriate post-op caesarean care
    • Perform a comprehensive six-week infant check
    • Advise new parents on early infant feeding issues including poor attachment, mastitis, poor weight gain and reflux

    • Have a systematic management plan for infants with CMPA, and understand the recent addition to treatment options in Australia.

    Vaccination update

    After participating in this session participants will be able to:

    • Advise patients who are planning a pregnancy or who are newly pregnant on appropriate vaccinations
    • Advise parents on current recommendations for their child’s vaccination both on and outside the current national immunisation program including recent updates
    • Discuss current recommendations and considerations for vaccinations of mothers and babies travelling overseas

    Baby rashes – when to worry

    After attending this seminar participants will be able to:

    • Assess a baby’s rash including both local and systemic signs and symptoms.
    • Recognise commonly occurring rashes in babies and their appropriate treatment.
    • Identify symptoms and signs of rashes that suggest urgent medical intervention is required to ensure patient safety.
